Asnæs Vildmark is open to the public on foot, by bike and by car. If you arrive by car, a tarmac road leads to a local council car park at Havnemark. From here, you can walk along gravel paths further into the area. There are gates and stone barriers so that you can enter the fenced area at the tip of the peninsula, where cows graze all year round.

It is important that visitors follow the rules for movement and behaviour set out below, out of consideration for nature, each other and the grazing animals. This also applies to any signs displayed at any time or instructions given by staff at Asnæs Vildmark.

We hope you’ll enjoy the countryside and share your experiences with others – out in the field or on social media. Feel free to tag us on Instagram at @vildmarken.dk so we can see your photos.

Guidelines for visitors

General rules for Asnæs Wilderness

Asnæs Wilderness belongs to the wild animals and plants.

You must not collect butterflies or other insects, catch amphibians or reptiles, pick or dig up plants, or break, damage branches or fell bushes and trees.

You must, of course, follow the instructions and guidance on signs and from Hempel Foundation staff or our representatives.

The Hempel Foundation may at any time regulate access within the fenced area and will post signs to this effect on relevant gates, etc.

Scientific equipment may be installed in the area and must not be touched.

Access and movement within the area

Walking is permitted on tracks and roads in the Asnæs Wilderness from 6.00 am until sunset.

Walking off the beaten track, away from paths, tracks and roads, is not permitted.

If you are inside the fencing, you may only pass through swing gates and cattle grids. Always ensure that swing gates are closed behind you.

You must not open the joints or drive gates. There is a strong electric current in the fence.

Dogs must always be kept on a lead

Dogs are allowed inside the fenced area, but must always be kept on a lead.

Bicycles must be pushed

Cycling is prohibited within the fenced area.

Bicycles may only be brought in if they are pushed.

Keep a safe distance from grazing animals

Always show consideration for grazing animals. They may be curious, but they do not approach people. If they come closer, move away.

You should always keep a good distance from grazing animals – at least 50 metres – and preferably even further if they have foals or calves. Also avoid getting between cows and calves, or mares and foals.

No feeding of cattle

Under no circumstances should the grazing animals be fed – not even with treats. Nor should they be lured towards you or attempts made to stroke them. This can alter the animals’ behaviour. If they become approachable, they must be removed or put down.

Only the animals’ owners are permitted to feed them. We carry out daily checks on all the animals and arrange regular veterinary inspections.

Read more about how we manage the grazing cows and horses here.

Driving is only permitted on public roads

Motorised vehicles – including electric ones – are only permitted on the public road leading to Havnemark.

All unauthorised use of motorised vehicles on other roads and tracks, including forest tracks, is prohibited, regardless of whether the chain barriers are unlocked or have been removed.

Horse riding is not permitted

Horse riding is not permitted in the Asnæs Wilderness.

Drones and other noise

Flying drones, using loudspeakers and making a lot of noise, etc., are not permitted.

Camping is not permitted

You must not camp in the Asnæs Wilderness, whether in a motorhome, caravan, car, tent, hammock or bivouac.

Always take your rubbish home with you

Rubbish must, of course, always be taken away with you. There are rubbish bins by the car park.

Events require a permission

All events, whether publicly advertised or not, require prior authorisation from the Hempel Foundation.

We do not grant authorisation for sporting or physical activities.
