Nørholm Vildmark is open to the public–on foot and with dogs on a lead. We therefore invite visitors to enter our fenced areas.

It is important that visitors follow the rules for movement and behaviour set out below, out of consideration for nature, one another and the grazing animals. This also applies to any signs displayed at any time or instructions given by staff at Nørholm Vildmark.

We hope you’ll enjoy the wilderness and share your experiences with others – out in the field or on social media. Feel free to tag us on Instagram at @vildmarken.dk so we can see your photos.

Guidelines for visitors

General rules in the Nørholm Wilderness

Nørholm Wilderness belongs to the wild animals and plants.

You must not collect butterflies or other insects, catch amphibians or reptiles, pick or dig up plants, or break, damage branches or fell bushes and trees.

You must, of course, follow the instructions and guidance on signs and from Hempel Foundation staff or our representatives.

The Hempel Foundation may at any time regulate access to the fenced areas and will post signs to this effect on relevant gates, etc.

Scientific equipment may be installed in the areas and must not be touched.

Access and movement within the area

There are public tarmac and gravel roads through Nørholm Wilderness, which are open to motorised vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

In the nature areas of Nørholm Vildmark, access on foot is permitted from 6 am until sunset.

Access to the fenced areas is currently not permitted.

You must not open the links or gates in the fence. There is a strong electric current in the fence.

Dogs must be kept on a lead

Dogs must be kept on a lead on public roads

Bicycles must be ridden on public roads

Cycling is only permitted on public tarmac and gravel roads.

Cycling is not permitted in nature reserves or on footpaths.

Do not feed cattle and keep your distance

Please be considerate of the grazing cattle in the enclosures along the stream. They may be curious, but do not lure them towards you by feeding them and do not touch them.

Under no circumstances should you feed the grazing cows and horses – not even with treats. This can alter the animals’ behaviour, causing them to become approachable, and they may then have to be removed or put down. Only the animals’ owners are permitted to feed them.

Driving is only permitted on public roads

Motorised vehicles – including electric ones – are only permitted on public tarmac and gravel roads. All unauthorised use of motorised vehicles on other roads, tracks and forest roads is prohibited, regardless of whether barriers and chains are unlocked or have been removed.

Drones and other noise

Flying drones, using loudspeakers, making a lot of noise, etc. are not permitted.

Camping and bonfires are not permitted

You must not camp in Nørholm Wilderness, whether in a motorhome, caravan, car, tent, hammock or bivouac.

You must not light a fire in Nørholm Wilderness.

Take your waste home with you

Of course, you must always take your garbage with you.

Events require a permission

All events, whether publicly advertised or not, require prior authorisation from the Hempel Foundation.

We do not grant authorisation for sporting or physical activities.
