International Rewilding Conference Coming to Denmark

We are delighted to announce that Denmark will host the Rewilding Conference for the first time in 2027. The news was unveiled at Naturmødet 2026.

The conference is organized by Citizen Zoo in collaboration with Hempel Foundation and aims to create a shared platform for knowledge exchange, new partnerships, and discussions on how we can restore nature at the speed and scale required by the biodiversity crisis.

“There is a need for this conference for two reasons. First, because through Vildmarken we are doing work that is relevant far beyond Denmark’s borders, and we believe it is important to bring international participants to Denmark to hear about our perspectives,”

says Anders Holm, CEO of Hempel Foundation, in an interview with Naturmonitor.

He continues:

“...But just as importantly, many of the challenges we face in Denmark are not unique to Denmark. Here at Naturmødet, you can also see the potential of bringing more experiences and perspectives into the discussions and into the way we work.”

For Hempel Foundation, the conference is a natural extension of its work with Vildmarken, which focuses on strengthening biodiversity through ecological restoration, research, and knowledge sharing.

We are therefore proud to bring the conference to Denmark. It provides an opportunity to share experiences, gain inspiration, and build new collaborations around rewilding and nature restoration across national borders.

Rewilding Conference 2027 is expected to bring together several hundred participants from across Europe and around the world for two days of presentations, debates, and workshops on the future of nature.
